However, the 316 can be annealed to protect against the attenuation of welding. It is also a ideal stainless steel to use in high temperatures and high corrosion applications, which is why it's so popular in marine and construction.

No 316, nor 316L is the most affordable option. The 304 is similar to the 304L but the price is much lower. The 304 is not as robust as the 317 and 317L as they have more molybdenum in them and better all-around corrosion protection.
